About the Artist

"I draw inspiration from remote places—marginal worlds of empty coasts, lonely hills, and hushed woodlands - landscapes rarely touched, their magic intact. In my work, I seek to capture this solitude, distilling the essence of these liminal spaces to offer a sense of their soul."

Michael Reece is an artist whose work reflects a life shaped by diverse cultural experiences. Born in Bombay, he lived in Brazil and the United States before settling in London. This global perspective informs his deeply intuitive approach, balancing raw naturalism with refined craftsmanship.

His ceramic sculptures embrace the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, finding beauty in imperfection, change, and organic form. Focused on themes of structure, erosion, and time, he works primarily with porcelain and rough black stoneware, allowing the natural qualities of the material to lead. Using minimal glazes and oxides, he creates pieces that feel both ancient and contemporary, fragile yet strong.

In contrast, his  paintings are alive with colour: bold, layered, and luminous. Moving between abstraction and figuration, they draw on the shifting light and restless motion of the sea. At times they evoke solitary shorelines, the hush of fading light, or landscapes that feel untouched and unseen. Acrylic, his chosen medium, allows for immediacy and spontaneity, qualities that have become the hallmark of his work. Each painting explores the relationship between energy and form, inviting the viewer to step into a space where the two converge.
